Alert Daughter

Backstory:

Alert Daughter was formed in the year 2003, in the small town of Culpepper, Virginia. The band was the brainchild of lifelong friends, Harmony Clarke and Melinda “Mel” Brooks, who had been jamming together in their parents’ basements since they were twelve. They were both inspired by their shared love of alternative music and their frustration with the lack of strong female voices in the rock scene.

In their early days, they spent most of their time writing songs in Mel’s attic, experimenting with different rhythms and lyrics. Their big break came when they were noticed by a local radio DJ after a gig in Richmond’s famous “The Camel” club. Their raw energy and unique sound quickly drew a lot of attention, and they eventually signed with an indie record label, “Soundscapes,” in 2005.
