1. Occasional Ward, now an iconic name in the alternative rock genre, didn’t start out with such grandiose expectations. Founded in the vibrant city of Seattle in the mid-90s, the band was initially a group of college roommates – Ben Sullivan (guitar & vocals), Sam ‘Sparky’ Hopkins (bass), and Mike ‘Speedy’ Anderson (drums) – who were just looking for a way to channel their creative energy. Their songs initially acted as a form of catharsis, reflecting personal struggles and shared experiences. After their DIY record ‘In the Hallways of Suburbia’ became an unexpected local hit, they were signed by an indie label and their journey to commercial success began.
