1. Backstory:
Formed in the quiet suburbs of Phoenix, Arizona in 2012, Hefty Dirt was the unexpected outcome of four high school friends’ shared love for gritty, grunge music and their dissatisfaction with the mainstream pop culture. The band members – lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Jake “Junker” Morrison, lead guitarist Johnny “Red” McCartney, drummer Mitch “Chug” Carver and bassist Danny “Buzz” O’Rourke – started by playing covers of their favorite rock and grunge bands at local bars and clubs.

Their raw talent, combined with their unique energy, soon garnered them a following among the local underground rock scene. Inspired by their growth and the reception they received, Hefty Dirt decided it was time to write their own music. They dug deep into their shared love for punk, grunge and rock, and their experiences growing up in the suburban Midwest. Their motivation was to create music that told stories – the kind of stories that resonated with quiet, suburban teenagers like themselves, who felt out of place in a world filled with pop music.
