Backstory:
Formed in the murky depths of Reno, Nevada in 2010, Nasty Oil was the brainchild of childhood friends, Blaze Michaels (vocals/guitar) and Kip “The Viper” Sanders (drums). They were later joined by Joanne “JoJo” Westfield (bass). Starting from humble beginnings, the band initially performed at local bars and pubs, earning a reputation for their raw, psychedelic soundscapes and energetic performances. The trio was finally picked up by a local indie label in 2013, marking the beginning of their journey into the mainstream. Since then, they have carved out a niche for themselves in the rock scene with their swirling guitar riffs, infectious rhythms, and thought-provoking lyrics.

“Crude Awakening”
Full song lyrics:
(Verse 1)
[A] Woke up this morning, [E] with a dream on my mind
[D] It was a crude awakening, [A] left all else behind
[A] The reflection in the mirror, [E] was a stranger to me
[D] I was covered in nasty oil, [A] as far as the eye could see
(Chorus)
[F] It’s a crude awakening, [C] but I don’t mind
[G] Covered in nasty oil, [F] I’ve found my kind
[F] We’re a slick sensation, [C] losing track of time
[G] Bathed in this crude, [F] we’re feeling fine
(Verse 2)
[A] The city’s burning bright, [E] as we take the stage
[D] It’s a crude awakening, [A] we’re the modern age
[A] The crowd is on fire, [E] the rhythm is tight
[D] We’re covered in nasty oil, [A] ready to ignite
(Repeat Chorus)
Fan Testimonial:
Fan’s Name: Lisa “Lizard” Richards
“I’m Lisa, but the Nasty Oil guys call me ‘Lizard’. I have been following Nasty Oil since their early bar days. I remember walking into this tiny pub in Reno and being instantly captivated by their sound. It was something raw, something real. I just couldn’t get enough. As a fan, I’ve loved watching their growth, their transformation. The way their music has evolved is beautiful. It’s like they’ve taken us on a journey, and every song is a new adventure. ‘Crude Awakening’ is my personal favorite. There’s something deeply hypnotic about it. It speaks to the rebel in me. Nasty Oil is not just my favorite band, they’re a part of my soul.”
