Backstory:
Dishonest Democracy was formed in a small garage in the heart of Seattle in 2017, breathing new life into the grunge scene that once dominated the city. The band members, lead vocalist Eddie Summers, drummer Mark “Rusty” Russel, guitarist Jack Lindon and bassist Sammy “Shades” Myles, were a group of friends who shared a common passion for music and a critical view of the socio-political landscape. It was this shared vision that led them to form Dishonest Democracy, an echo of their disillusionment with the state of affairs and a call for change.
They started out playing small gigs in local bars and coffee houses, making a name for themselves with their raw sound and honest lyrics about corruption, inequality, and the facade of democracy. Their music resonated with the local crowd, slowly building a loyal fan base that appreciated the band’s unapologetic stance and commitment to voicing the reality through their music.
Genre:
Dishonest Democracy is identified by powerful grunge rock with elements of punk and heavy metal, reflecting the grunge revival scene.
Song Title:
“The Illusion of Freedom”
Full Song Lyrics:
(Verse 1)
[Em] Woke up this morning, [C] with the news on the screen,
[G] Stories of corruption, [D] far from a dream.
[Em] The rich keep getting richer, [C] the poor just get by,
[G] Underneath the facade, [D] democracy’s lie.
(Chorus)
[G] It’s an illusion, [D] the illusion of freedom,
[Em] Our voices silenced, [C] in the name of wisdom.
[G] The puppeteers laughing, [D] on their golden throne,
[Em] Do we really choose, [C] or are we just pawns?
(Verse 2)
[Em] Worn-out promises, [C] same old song,
[G] Telling us what’s right, [D] when it’s all wrong.
[Em] Power and greed, [C] in every decision,
[G] Democracy’s just a, [D] dishonest illusion.
(Chorus)
[G] It’s an illusion, [D] the illusion of freedom,
[Em] Our rights on auction, [C] to the highest bidder’s kingdom.
[G] The puppeteers feasting, [D] on our despair,
[Em] Is it really freedom, [C] when it’s not fair?
