Backstory:
Handsome Park was born out of a garage in Austin, Texas in 2012. The brainchild of brothers Matt and Gary Barnes, the band was initially a passion project for the two to escape from their humdrum nine-to-five jobs. Their shared love for music and desire to dig deep into their creative roots brought them together, and soon enough, they found themselves hosting jam sessions with their friends. It was during one such session that they met Hannah Bloom and Jack Riley, who would soon become core members of the band.
As their sound evolved, so did their friendship. They started performing in small local venues, and their eclectic mix of blues, rock, and indie pop quickly garnered a loyal following. People were drawn to their raw, emotional energy and the honest, heartfelt lyrics that spoke of love, loss, and everything in between. Handsome Park had become more than just a passion project; it was a display of creative force and a testament to their enduring friendship.

Title:
“Paper Lanterns”
Full Song Lyrics:
(Verse 1)
[G] Wandering through an [D] empty street,
[G] Memories of you [D] in my heart beat.
[G] The wind whispers your [D] name,
[G] and I’m lost in this [D] nostalgic game.
(Chorus)
[C] Under the paper [G] lanterns’ glow,
[D] I dream of us in the [Em] afterglow.
[C] The echoes of our [G] laughter, still in the air,
[D] But, oh, how I wish [Em] you were here.
(Verse 2)
[G] I trace our steps [D] in the falling snow,
[G] Each footprint tells a [D] story of its own.
[G] The city lights twinkling [D] far and near,
[G] I hold on to the [D] love that once was here.
(Chorus)
[C] Under the paper [G] lanterns’ glow,
[D] I dream of us in the [Em] afterglow.
[C] The echoes of our [G] laughter, still in the air,
[D] But, oh, how I wish [Em] you were here.
(Bridge)
[Am] I keep these memories [G] close,
[Am] In the whispers of the [G] ghost.
[Am] The ink of love we [G] penned,
[D] Underneath the paper lanterns, my friend.
(Chorus)
[C] Under the paper [G] lanterns’ glow,
[D] I dream of us in the [Em] afterglow.
[C] The echoes of our [G] laughter, still in the air,
[D] But, oh, how I wish [Em] you were here.

Testimonial:
“I’ve been a fan of Handsome Park since their first gig in a local bar in Austin. Their music, for me, is therapeutic. It’s like they just get it, you know? They capture the essence of human emotions so beautifully, it sometimes leaves me teary-eyed. There’s just something about their authenticity and rawness that makes me feel seen and heard. Matt, Gary, Hannah, and Jack are not just musicians to me; they are storytellers, weaving intricate tales of love and life through their songs. Handsome Park is my favorite band because every track takes me on a journey, and I always come out at the end feeling a little more understood, a little less alone.”
