Thorny Volunteer

Backstory:
Thorny Volunteer is an indie rock band that started in the bustling music scene of Austin, Texas, in 2013. Founding members, Seth Johansson and Mia Hawks, were initially rivals, each fronting their respective bands in the local scene. This competitive rivalry quickly turned into a deep musical admiration that eventually led to the formation of Thorny Volunteer. Despite the bitter breakup of their previous bands, they were determined to create music that would transcend conventional musical borders.

Their journey was not devoid of hardships. The initial years were spent in tiny clubs and basement gigs, struggling to find their voice. The turning point came when they met bassist Tom Morely and drummer Luke Kendrick. Together, they created a unique blend of introspective lyrics, powerful bass lines, and explosive drum sequences. The band’s story is a testament to their determination, encapsulating the spirit of their name – Thorny Volunteer, reflecting the difficult path they willingly chose.

“Echoes of Yesterday”

Full Song Lyrics:

(Verse)
Em Am
Waking up to the echoes of yesterday,
C D
The city sleeps, but my mind’s in disarray.
Em Am
Lost in memories, in the corners of my brain,
C D
Bitter sweetness, love wrapped in pain.

(Chorus)
G D Em C
Echoes of yesterday, calling my name,
G D Em C
Whispering tales of joy, and untamed flame.
G D Em C
In the mirror of the past, we dance again,
G D Em C
Echoes of yesterday, love’s sweet refrain.

(Verse)
Em Am
Streetlights flicker, as I walk this lonely road,
C D
Chasing shadows, and stories untold.
Em Am
In every corner, every turn, every bend,
C D
I see us laughing, I see us, my friend.

(Chorus)
G D Em C
Echoes of yesterday, fill up the night,
G D Em C
Painting pictures of love, in the soft moonlight.
G D Em C
In the silence of the dark, I hear your laugh again,
G D Em C
Echoes of yesterday, love’s sweet refrain.
