Respectful Pensioner

Backstory:

Respectful Pensioner is the unlikely amalgamation of four retirees who met at a jazzercise class in a local senior center in Norwich, England. Charles “Chuck” Thatcher, a former accountant, is on the drums. Amanda “Mandy” Hopkins, a retired schoolteacher, is the lead guitarist. Nigel “Nelly” Jennings, an ex-military man, works the bass, and Elspeth “Elsie” Murphy, a former opera singer, is the band’s vocalist. They came together over a shared love of music and a desire to prove that age is just a number when it comes to pursuing your passions. What initially started as a fun pastime quickly grew into something bigger when Elsie’s granddaughter uploaded a video of them performing onto YouTube, which went viral overnight.

Title:

“Silver-Haired Rebellion”

Song Lyrics:

(Verse 1)
[C] We were young once, [G] but those days are gone,
[Am] Now we dance to a [F] different song.
[C] Aches and pains, [G] glasses and canes,
[Am] But our spirit [F] remains.

(Chorus)
[G] Silver-Haired Rebellion, rise up, don’t fall,
[C] Age is just a number, it means nothing at all.
[Am] Rocking in the free world, giving it our all,
[F] Silver-Haired Rebellion, we’ve got the call.

(Verse 2)
[C] It’s never too late, [G] to strum a tune,
[Am] Underneath the [F] afternoon.
[C] Time marches on, [G] but we’re still here,
[Am] Chasing dreams [F] without fear.

(Chorus)
[G] Silver-Haired Rebellion, rise up, don’t fall,
[C] Age is just a number, it means nothing at all.
[Am] Rocking in the free world, giving it our all,
[F] Silver-Haired Rebellion, we’ve got the call.

Fan Testimonial:

Our favorite fan is Timmy Carlton, a 13-year old from Liverpool, who first discovered our music through his grandparents. Here is what he has to say about us: “Respectful Pensioner is my favorite band because they taught me that it’s never too late to follow your dreams. I love their energy and their music. It’s not like the usual stuff I listen to, but there’s something so cool and inspiring about them. They prove that rock ‘n’ roll knows no age. I can only hope to be as cool as them when I’m a pensioner!”
