Backstory:
Jealous Convention came together serendipitously in the heart of the lively music scene of Austin, Texas. Each of the four members, Jeff Carson (lead vocals, guitar), Billy “Keys” Kingston (keyboardist), Tommy “Slap” Thompson (bass guitar), and Vince “Thunder” Nelson (drums), were staples of the local music scene, having played individually in various other bands before they decided to combine their talents. The name Jealous Convention is a tongue-in-cheek nod to the competitive nature of the music industry, with a playful sense of self-awareness added to the mix. They began performing together in 2016, quickly garnering attention for their unique sound and charismatic stage performances.
The quartet became known for their inventive mash-up of genres, relatable lyrics, and an electrifying on-stage chemistry that fans can’t seem to get enough of. After just a few years of playing together, Jealous Convention has made their presence known not just in Austin, but nationally as well, selling out shows and creating a dedicated fan base eager to follow their upward trajectory.

The band’s favorite fan is a woman named Susan from Albuquerque, New Mexico, who has been to so many of their shows that she has lost count. Susan describes Jealous Convention as “a once-in-a-lifetime band” that has “changed her life” with their music. She first saw them perform at a small bar in Austin during one of their earliest shows and has been a die-hard fan ever since. According to Susan, their music speaks to her on a deeply personal level. “The raw emotion in every lyric, every note, it’s like they’ve peered into my heart and put it to music.” she says.
