Backstory:
Alert Daughter was formed in the year 2003, in the small town of Culpepper, Virginia. The band was the brainchild of lifelong friends, Harmony Clarke and Melinda “Mel” Brooks, who had been jamming together in their parents’ basements since they were twelve. They were both inspired by their shared love of alternative music and their frustration with the lack of strong female voices in the rock scene.
In their early days, they spent most of their time writing songs in Mel’s attic, experimenting with different rhythms and lyrics. Their big break came when they were noticed by a local radio DJ after a gig in Richmond’s famous “The Camel” club. Their raw energy and unique sound quickly drew a lot of attention, and they eventually signed with an indie record label, “Soundscapes,” in 2005.

Title:
“Radiant Rebellion”
Full Song Lyrics:
(Verse 1)
[Em] We are the girls with [C] voices loud,
[G] Writing our stories on [D] clouds.
[Em] Tearing down walls of [C] silence,
[G] Spinning tales of radiant [D] defiance.
(Chorus)
[Em] We are the girls, [C] we are the night,
[G] We are the stars that [D] shine so bright.
[Em] We are the scream, [C] we are the flight,
[G] We are the radiant [D] rebellion, taking flight.
(Verse 2)
[Em] We sing the songs of [C] broken hearts,
[G] Of dreams that were torn [D] apart.
[Em] We carry the weight of [C] fallen stars,
[G] And play our music in [D] old, rusty cars.
(Chorus)
[Em] We are the girls, [C] we are the night,
[G] We are the stars that [D] shine so bright.
[Em] We are the scream, [C] we are the flight,
[G] We are the radiant [D] rebellion, taking flight.
Favorite Fan:
Alert Daughter’s favorite fan is James Linden, a high school teacher from their hometown. James has been following the band since their very first gig in Culpepper and has attended every single one of their shows within a 200-mile radius. He says, “Alert Daughter is the anthem to my own rebellion. Their music speaks to me on a deep, personal level. It’s raw, it’s fierce, and it’s unapologetically authentic. Every time I hear ‘Radiant Rebellion,’ I feel seen, I feel heard. It’s an incredibly powerful feeling.”
