Backstory:
Beneficial Use is a band that found its roots in the bustling heart of New York City in the early 2010s. The five members – Jim (vocals), Mark (lead guitar), Fred (bass), Luke (keyboards), and Steve (drums) – were all from different parts of the country but met through a shared love of music at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. They started jamming together in various apartments across the city; their stripped-down, raw sound and shared ethos of using music to inspire positive change quickly gained them a dedicated local following.
After graduation, they decided to keep the band going, living together in a studio apartment in Brooklyn and working various day jobs to make ends meet. Their dedication paid off – their first self-released EP, created in their DIY home studio, was picked up by a local radio station, snowballing their popularity and leading to their first record deal. Over the years, they’ve become known for their grassroots origins, their powerful live performances, and their unique blend of rock, folk, and soul.

Title:
“Rise Above”
Full Song Lyrics:
(Verse 1)
Am E
In the heart of the city, under the neon lights,
F C
We found our rhythm, found our fight,
Am E
In the noise and the chaos, we found our peace,
F C
In the melody, we found release.
(Chorus)
G E7
Rise above, rise above,
Am C
Let the music be your love,
G E7
Stand tall, stand proud,
Am C
Let your voice be loud.
(Verse 2)
Am E
From the clatter of the subway, to the city’s roar,
F C
We found the rhythm, found something more,
Am E
In the rush and the haste, we found our pace,
F C
In the harmony, we found our grace.
(Chorus)
G E7
Rise above, rise above,
Am C
Let the music be your guide,
G E7
Stand firm, stand strong,
Am C
In the melody, we belong.
(Outro)
Am E
So here we are, under the starlit skies,
F C
With the city’s rhythm, we rise,
Am E
To the rhythm of the city, to the rhythm of the night,
F C
With our voices united, we take flight.
