Bumpy Galley

Backstory:

Bumpy Galley was formed on a serendipitous evening when four college friends discovered their shared love for obscure vinyl records and guitar solos in a small thrift shop in Austin, Texas. The band members, lead vocalist and guitarist Lenny Gershwin, bassist Robert “Bobo” McKenzie, drummer Arthur “Artie” Hart, and keyboardist Jeremy “Jazzy J” Jefferson, all hailed from different parts of the country, but destiny brought them together at the University of Texas. Their common enthusiasm for music, particularly an inclination towards experimental beats and unconventional songwriting, sparked an immediate bond. After a few impromptu jam sessions in their cramped dorm rooms, the quartet decided to get serious about pursuing their passion – and thus, Bumpy Galley was born.

Their journey was not without its trials and tribulations, often playing at frat parties and local bars for a handful of listeners, and sometimes just the bartender. However, Bumpy Galley’s break came during the South by Southwest festival, where their unique sound and charismatic energy attracted an indie music producer who was looking for something fresh and offbeat. From then on, there was no looking back for Bumpy Galley. Their journey continues to be a wild ride, somewhat mirroring their name, but they wouldn’t have it any other way.

Title:

“Cracked Vinyl Soul”

Lyrics:

[Verse 1]
Am F C G
In the heart of the city, where the lights are low,
Am F C G
We found our rhythm, in the record store glow.
Am F C G
Spinning tales of our yesterdays, in the groove of the old,
Am F C G
Our hearts beat for, the cracked vinyl soul.

[Chorus]
Dm F C G
Cracked vinyl soul, oh how you play,
Dm F C G
In our hearts, in an old-school way.
Dm F C G
We found our music, we found our role,
Dm F C G
In the rhythm of the, cracked vinyl soul.

Fan testimonial:

Name: Megan “Meg” Lewis

“I’ve been a fan of Bumpy Galley since their early days. I stumbled upon their gig at a small bar in Austin, and their unique blend of alternative indie rock just resonated with me immediately. I love how they experiment with their sound, yet maintain an old-school charm. Besides their music, what makes Bumpy Galley my favorite band is their authenticity. They’re not trying to fit into the mainstream; they’re just being true to themselves and their art. And that’s something rare to find these days. Each of their songs, especially ‘Cracked Vinyl Soul,’ has an emotional depth that speaks to me. I can’t wait to see where their journey takes them. They’ve got a lifelong fan in me.”
