1. Short Backstory

Burdensome Treaty, a three-piece rock band, was born in the heart of Sheffield, UK, in the late 2000s. Long-time friends and music enthusiasts, Ben Smith (guitar/vocals), Ollie Hughes (bass) and Luke Turner (drums), found their unique sound during a late-night jam session in a dingy, local garage. They bonded over shared influences, such as Radiohead, Muse, and Arctic Monkeys, and their shared disillusionment with the political landscape. The name “Burdensome Treaty” was chosen as an expression of their collective sentiments, symbolizing the societal pressures and the political agreements that they felt were unjustly limiting the freedom of individuals.

In a world of music often focusing on romance or party culture, Burdensome Treaty has carved out a niche for themselves with their thought-provoking lyrics and raw, unapologetic sound.
