Chief Host

Backstory:
Chief Host sprung to life in the bustling arts scene of Portland, Oregon, in the summer of 2013. The band consists of four members: Alex Sherman (lead vocals, guitar), Jake Murphy (drums), Liz Powell (bass, backing vocals), and Sam McCallister (keyboards). The four met at a local open mic night, each drawn to the other’s raw energy and musical style. What started as a spontaneous jam session turned into regular get-togethers in Alex’s basement, and before they knew it, Chief Host was born.

These impromptu sessions quickly morphed into a unique sound, one that was edgy, yet melodic. Their eclectic influences ranged from classic rock, jazz, punk, and a touch of bluegrass. Alex, the band’s primary songwriter, drew lyrics from his experiences growing up in the Pacific Northwest, providing a soulful authenticity to their music that resonated with listeners. Despite their newfound success and growing fanbase, Chief Host remains grounded, carrying the same passion and energy that first brought them together.

Title:
“Rift in the Rain”

Full Song Lyrics:

(Verse 1)
Em G C D
Rain drops on my window, as I look toward the sky,
Em G C D
Thinking bout the moments, that have passed me by,
Am D G C
Got a feeling in my chest, like a heavy sigh,
Am D G
A rift in the rain, don’t know why.

(Chorus)
G D Em C
Dancing in the echoes of the wind,
G D Em C
Chasing shadows, where do I begin?
G D Em C
In every heartbreak, every sin,
G D Am
There’s a rift in the rain, deep within.

(Verse 2)
Em G C D
Underneath the storm clouds, with a broken heart,
Em G C D
Seems the world’s in pieces, tearing us apart,
Am D G C
Still the rain keeps falling, like a work of art,
Am D G
In the rift in the rain, we all have a part.

(Chorus)
G D Em C
Dancing in the echoes of the wind,
G D Em C
Amidst the turmoil, we find kin,
G D Em C
In every sorrow, every grin,
G D Am
There’s a rift in the rain, deep within.
