1. Backstory:

Courteous Sea was formed in the summer of 2010 in the vibrant music scene of Seattle, Washington. The group was the brainchild of Alex Fenton, a former high school music teacher with a passion for storytelling and melody. After leaving his teaching job, he was joined by his old college friends: drummer Leo Grady, bassist Nick Carter, and keyboardist Sarah Petersen. The band’s name was inspired by a member’s childhood memory of peaceful summers spent by the sea, which they sought to reflect in their music: a soothing yet powerful blend of harmonies and narratives.

Their initial years were filled with numerous local gigs and indie music festivals, where they slowly began to make a name for themselves with their distinct sound. Their breakthrough came in 2013, when their self-released album caught the attention of a major record label. Since then, Courteous Sea has been steadily rising in the indie pop scene, earning acclaim for their heartfelt lyrics and captivating performances.
