1. Backstory
“Cute Steam” burst onto the indie rock scene in 2012, initially as a fun side project for four college friends in Berkeley, California. The band consists of lead guitarist and vocalist Jamie “JJ” Johnson, bassist Alex “Xander” Newman, keyboardist Sarah “Saz” Harrison and drummer Luke “Lukey” West. What started as a hobby to blow off some steam between study sessions quickly gained traction within the local music community due to their unique sound, witty lyrics, and infectious energy. Their break came after a high energy performance at a local music festival, which caught the attention of a popular record label. Since then, Cute Steam has been rising in popularity, captivating audiences with their energetic live performances and relatable lyrics.
