Dizzy Shape

Backstory:
“Dizzy Shape” was born out of a shared dormitory at the University of North Carolina in 2012. The founding members, vocalist Jared Lewis, drummer Oliver “Ollie” Turner, and lead guitarist Stephen “Steve” Finnigan, were all studying music theory and composition, and their collective passion led to many jam sessions. After a year of refining their sound and writing original songs, they added bassist Mia Watson to their line-up. Their first unofficial gig was an impromptu performance at a university festival, which garnered them a reasonable fan base and motivated them to continue their music journey.

Being students of music theory, the band began experimenting with different sounds and genres, pushing the boundaries and blurring the lines of conventional music norms. They self-produced their first album in 2014, which was a blend of rock, jazz, funk, and electronica. This interesting blend caught the attention of a local recording studio, and the rest, as they say, was history.

Genre:
Alternative Rock with a fusion of Jazz, Funk, and Electronica

(Verse 1)
[C] Mirror mirror on the [G] wall,
[Am] Who’s the fairest of them [Em] all?
[F] Reflections twist and [C] twirl,
[G] In this dizzy, dizzy [C] world.

(Chorus)
[F] Distorted re-[C] flection, in the [G] looking glass,

[F] Spinning in a [C] dizzy shape,
[G] Holding on, there’s no es-[C]cape.

(Verse 2)
[C] Shadows dance and [G] flicker fast,
[Am] Memories of a [Em] distant past.
[F] Caught in this crazy [C] dream,
[G] Nothing’s really as it [C] seems.

(Chorus)
[F] Distorted re-[C] flection, in the [G] looking glass,
[Am] Life’s a stage, we’re [Em] all the cast.
[F] Spinning in this [C] dizzy shape,
[G] Holding on, we’ll [C] find our fate.

(Bridge)
[Am] Spinning, spinning, [Em] round and round,
[F] Reality is [C] nowhere found.
[Am] Hold on tight, don’t [Em] let it go,
[F] Embrace the ride, enjoy the [G] show.

(Chorus)
[F] Distorted re-[C] flection, in the [G] looking glass,
[Am] Embrace the change, [Em] make it last.
[F] Spinning in our [C] dizzy shape,
[G] In this life, there’s no es-[C]cape.

Favorite Fan Testimonial:
Dizzy Shape’s number one fan is probably Becky Thompson from Raleigh. She says, “I fell in love with Dizzy Shape the first time I saw them perform at our university festival. Their music is like nothing I’ve ever heard before. It’s a perfect blend of rock, jazz, funk, and electronica, which makes them unique. Their lyrics are deep and meaningful, and their performances are electrifying. Being a music student myself, I appreciate their experimental approach and their ability to create such an innovative sound. They are definitely my favorite band, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next!”
