Downright Curtain

Backstory:

Formed in the vibrant heart of Nashville, Tennessee in 2015, Downright Curtain is the brainchild of longtime friends and musical soulmates, Steven “Red” Simms and Samuel “Salty” Jacobson. The pair became fast friends in their high school garage band days, bonding over their shared love of folk legend, Johnny Cash, and the pop punk classics of Green Day. After a decade of pursuing individual musical projects, they decided to bring their unique musical visions together, forming Downright Curtain. The band found a missing piece when they added the incredible talent of violinist Catherine “Cat” Hartley in 2016, completing the unique sound they had been seeking.

Downright Curtain’s name was inspired by a late-night conversation about life and music. As Red commented about how music serves as a “downright curtain”, revealing and obscening what’s real and unreal in life, Salty knew then, that’s what their music should aspire to become. A curtain that would draw people in and unveil a unique realm of emotions, experiences, and stories.

Title:

“Chains of Yesterday”

Full Song Lyrics:

Verse 1:
Em G D C
Sittin’ on the edge of a broken dream,
Em G D C
Wondering if the stars have lost their gleam.
Em G D C
The Chains of Yesterday keep pulling me back,
Em G D C
Into a world where all colours fade to black.

Chorus:
Em G D C
Shake off the Chains of Yesterday, let them fall,
Em G D C
With every note we play, we heed the call.
Em G D C
We’re singing for the echo, we’re singing for the light,
Em G D C
With every strum, we’re fighting the night.

Verse 2:
Em G D C
Walking down the road of forgotten dreams,
Em G D C
Picking up the pieces of faded themes.
Em G D C
The Chains of Yesterday echo in my mind,
Em G D C
But with every tune, I leave the past behind.

(Repeat Chorus)
