1. Backstory

Formed in 2015 in Berkeley, California, ‘Female Pause’ is a five-piece, all-women band that was originally a therapy project in a university dorm. Its members – lead vocalist Rebecca ‘Rex’ Larson, guitarist Cece ‘Fret Mistress’ Franco, bassist Nina ‘LowEnd’ Gupta, keyboardist Bella ‘Keys’ Rodriguez, and drummer Charlie ‘Beatbox’ Smith – met in a women’s studies class and began to jam together, using music as an outlet for their daily frustrations. As they realized their shared musical chemistry and passion for social issues, they decided to take their band to the public. Their act started gaining attention in local venues and quickly garnered a following for their edgy, yet relatable lyrics and energetic performances. ‘Female Pause’ has since become a beacon for women empowerment in the music industry.
