Functional Amount

Backstory:
In the heart of the bustling city of Detroit, in 2010, ‘Functional Amount’ began as a passion project by long-time friends Mick Fischer and Joey Silverman. Having both worked dead-end office jobs for the past few years, they decided it was time to follow their true calling. They combined their shared love for music and their shared frustration with the modern working world to create a band that would speak to the angst of the working-class person. Joined by drummer Sarah “Crash” Thompson, whose exhilarating rhythm and fiery spirit added a unique dimension to their sound, ‘Functional Amount’ began to take shape. Their songs were an outlet for their frustrations, a rallying cry for those who felt stuck in the monotony of the 9-to-5 grind, and a beacon of hope for the dreamer in everyone.

Title:
“Office Drone Blues”

Full Song Lyrics:

(Verse)
Am – G – D – E
In this cubicle I sit, under fluorescent light,
The ticking of the clock, feels like dynamite,
Paper stacks and ringing phones, fill my everyday,
I’m just an office drone, in a corporate play.

(Chorus)
C – G – D – E
But I’ve got the Office Drone Blues, yeah, it’s got a hold,
Tied in the monotony, I’m bought and sold,
Yearning for the open road, where my heart is free,
Away from the Office Drone Blues, that’s where I want to be.

(Verse)
Am – G – D – E
Coffee breaks and water cooler talks, are my only respite,
In the maze of grey and white, losing sight of the light,
The boss’s laugh, the client’s demands, they’re haunting my dreams,
In the realm of spreadsheets and plans, nothing’s as it seems.

(Chorus)
C – G – D – E
I’ve got the Office Drone Blues, echoing inside,
In this game of win and lose, I’ve lost my ride,
Dreaming of the starlit skies, where my soul can breathe,
Away from the Office Drone Blues, I wish I could leave.

Favorite Fan:
Their favorite fan is a woman named Susan who works as an office manager in Lansing. She first heard “Office Drone Blues” on a late-night radio show during her drive home after a particularly challenging day at work. In the band’s music, she found a voice for her own feelings of frustration and longing. She’s attended every one of their shows in Michigan and has been a vocal advocate for them on social media. Susan explains, “Functional Amount isn’t just a band. It’s a lifeline for people like me. Their music speaks to the part of me that yearns for something more than mind-numbing routine. They remind me that it’s okay to dream, to seek something fulfilling and exciting. Their music is the soundtrack of my escape, my rebellion against the grind. I can’t explain how much their songs mean to me.”
