Giant Mine

Backstory:

Giant Mine is a Canadian rock band that originated in the historical mining town of Yellowknife. Inspired by the gritty resilience of their community and the haunting tales of the now-abandoned Giant Mine, the band was formed in 2012 by five childhood friends – Alex Thompson (Vocals), Mitchell Davis (Guitar), Robert Clark (Bass), Steve Harper (Drums), and Michael Peterson (Keyboard). Their musical journey began in the cramped space of Robert’s garage, where they would spend countless hours perfecting their sound and creating music that resonates with their roots.

The band’s name is a tribute to the abandoned gold mine that has left an everlasting mark on their hometown. They channel the spirit of their town, its history and struggles, through their music, telling stories of survival, hope, and resilience. Giant Mine has gained a reputation for its energy-packed performances and honest lyrics that strike a chord with many, gradually earning them a dedicated fan base both within and outside Canada.

Favorite Fan:

Our favorite fan is Sarah Mitchell. A resident of Yellowknife, Sarah has been following us since our very first gig at a local pub. She says, “Giant Mine is more than just a band to me. Their music tells the story of our town, our people. It’s raw, it’s real, it’s us. Every time I hear ‘Golden Shadows,’ I’m reminded of the spirit of our community – the hardships, the triumphs, the resilience. That’s what makes Giant Mine my favorite band. They’re not just musicians, they’re storytellers of our past, our present, and our future.”
