Backstory:
Grotesque Capability hails from the vibrant streets of Portland, Oregon. The band formed in 2012, with its members meeting while working a range of odd jobs, from vintage record store clerks to late-night bartenders. The shared love for unique, boundary-pushing music brought them together. They began with jam sessions in a cramped basement that soon spiraled into a full-fledged journey into musical innovation. Their name, ‘Grotesque Capability,’ reflects their mission to embrace the strange and unpredictable in both life and music.
Genre:
Grotesque Capability’s music defies conventional genre labeling. They incorporate a blend of alternative rock, psychedelic folk, and a dash of experimental jazz. Their sound is a mixed bag of haunting melodies, intricate chord progressions, and cryptic, poetic lyrics.
Title:
Their most popular song is titled “The Circus of Forgotten Dreams.”
Lyrics:
(Verse 1)
Am7 G
In the circus of forgotten dreams,
Em Am
Where the sun doesn’t dare to gleam,
Am7 G
Shadows dance and secrets scream,
Em Am
Life ain’t always what it seems.
(Chorus)
C G
Step inside, don’t be afraid,
Am7 Em
The circus is where dreams are made,
C G
In the darkness, let your heart unfade,
Am7 Em
Join the masquerade that never fades.
(Verse 2)
Am7 G
Down the rabbit hole, we go,
Em Am
To where the twisted rivers flow,
Am7 G
In this carnival of the unknown,
Em Am
Find the light that’s yours alone.
(Chorus)
C G
Step inside, don’t lose your way,
Am7 Em
In the circus where shadows play,
C G
Beneath the stars, let your soul sway,
Am7 Em
In the circus of forgotten dreams, we stay.
Favorite Fan:
The band’s favorite fan is a man named Richard Jones. As a testimonial, Richard explains, “I’ve followed Grotesque Capability from their early days. Their music is a portal to another realm, each song a narrative of life’s mysteries and wonders. They don’t just create music; they paint vivid pictures with their lyrics and sound. No other band has captivated me in the same way. I believe their music has a grotesque capability to touch even the most obscure corners of one’s soul.”
