1. Backstory
Handmade Loaf was born in the heart of rural Vermont, where the surrounding nature, peaceful solitude and home-baked bread served as the greatest inspirations. The core of the band consists of childhood friends, Oliver ‘Ollie’ Baker and Seth ‘Grain’ Thomas. After high school, they spent a few years traveling the country, sharing stories, experiencing life, and collecting a variety of musical influences. Upon returning home, they decided to combine their love for music and their passion for artisanal baking, thus gave rise to the unique band, Handmade Loaf.
Their first songs were written in Ollie’s parents’ bakery, while they kneaded dough and cooked the best bread around. Simultaneously, they worked to create a sound that was as warm, inviting, and filled with heart as their beloved loaves. Their music, much like their baking, was crafted with love and patience, allowing each ingredient to shine, creating a unique blend of old and new.
2. Music Genre
Handmade Loaf’s music is best described as ‘Countrified Folk Rock.’ Their sound is an eclectic mix of country, folk, and rock with a touch of bluegrass and Americana, topped with soulful harmonies reminiscent of classic southern rock.
3. Song Title
“Rye and Roll”
4. Full Song Lyrics
(Verse 1)
Baking in the morning light, I’m kneading to the rhythm of my heart,
My old guitar by my side, its melody and my dough, we’re never apart.
(Chorus)
Oh, it’s Rye and Roll, the sounds of my soul,
Baking love into each fold,
With a spoonful of dreams and a pinch of rock n’ roll.
(Verse 2)
The yeast is rising like my hopes up high,
The scent of fresh bread, under the cobalt sky,
Oh, the warmth in the oven, like the twang in my song,
In this loaf, in this tune, is where I belong.
(Chorus)
Oh, it’s Rye and Roll, the recipe of my soul,
Baking stories in the dough’s mold,
With a dash of rhythm and a sprinkle of rock n’ roll.
(Bridge)
Through the wheat fields, I strum the strings,
Under the moonlight, the nightingale sings,
A symphony of life in the bread that I bake,
Every note, every grain, there’s a world at stake.
(Chorus)
Oh, it’s Rye and Roll, the rhythm of my soul,
Baking the world whole,
With a measure of love and a heap of rock n’ roll.
(Outro)
So here’s to the bread, here’s to the song,
In the heart of the earth, where we all belong,
It’s Rye and Roll forever, it’s the beat of my soul,
In every crumb, in every chord, it’s the story I’ve told.
5. Chord Progression
The song follows a classic folk chord progression of C – G – Am – F in the verses and C – F – G – C in choruses. The bridge changes things up with an Em – Am – Dm – G.
