1. Backstory
Humongous Potato was born out of a college dorm room in the quaint city of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The founding members, vocalist Billy “Spud” Murphy and guitarist Daniel “Fries” Thompson, bonded over their shared love for music and an unusual fascination with potatoes — they found the tuber to be versatile, humble, and often underrated much like themselves. Initially, their music was only meant to entertain friends during late-night study breaks, but soon their unorthodox lyrics and catchy tunes began to cultivate a following on campus. Adding drummer Rachel “Hashbrown” Bennet and bassist Liam “Tater Tot” Johnson, they formed the band Humongous Potato.

Their big break came unexpectedly during a local talent show where they performed an original piece. The audience was instantly captivated by their unique sound and quirky stage presence. After a video of their performance went viral, Humongous Potato started receiving invitations to local gigs, festivals, and eventually got signed to the indie record label, Spud Sounds.
