Backstory:
Idle Poet began as a group of four childhood friends from the pastoral heartlands of Kentucky: guitarists/vocalists Arthur Willis and Jake McLeod, drummer Max Burton, and bassist Billy Thompson. The friends had grown up together, woven together by their shared love for music and their dream of making it big in the industry. After graduating high school, they pooled their resources together and formed Idle Poet, a band aimed at creating music that reflects their shared experiences, dreams, and love for their roots. In 2008, they released their first self-titled album, which was met with positive reviews from local critics.
Genre:
Idle Poet’s music can be best described as indie folk rock. With lyrics steeped in unvarnished realism and soundscapes that are rich, evocative and layered, their music is a poignant mix that resonates deeply with their audience.
Title:
“A Song for the Road”
Full Song Lyrics:
(Verse 1)
[G] Down the dusty lanes, [D] where we used to play,
[Em] Dreams of golden days, [C] fading in the grey.
[G] Packed our bags, left the town, [D] where we used to grow,
[Em] Headed for the bright lights, [C] chasing shadow shows.
(Chorus)
[G] We are the dreamers, [D] we are the bold,
[Em] Carving out a future, [C] from tales of old.
[G] This is our story, [D] this is our song,
[Em] A song for the road, [C] as we journey on.
(Verse 2)
[G] Through the neon nights, [D] and the cold morning haze,
[Em] Through the heartbreaks and triumphs, [C] all part of the chase.
[G] We found ourselves, [D] lost ourselves, in the rhythm and the rhyme,
[Em] Idle Poet’s story, [C] echoing in time.
(Chorus)
[G] We are the dreamers, [D] we are the bold,
[Em] Carving out a future, [C] from tales of old.
[G] This is our story, [D] this is our song,
[Em] A song for the road, [C] as we journey on.
