Backstory:
Insignificant Parent was formed in the summer of 2002, by high school friends Rob MacMillan (lead vocals, guitar) and Chris O’Connell (drums, backing vocals). The two met in their school’s music club, bonding over their shared love for alternative rock and grunge. They started writing songs in their basement, inspired by the mundanity and struggles of suburban life. After years of performing in local pubs and tiny music festivals, they caught the attention of indie label ‘Raincheck Records’ in 2006. They then added bassist Jenny Adams to the lineup, and the rest, as they say, is history.
The band gained a dedicated fan base with their honest lyrics, raw sounds, and a keen sense of humor that always reminded people not to take life too seriously. Their quirky name, Insignificant Parent, speaks volumes about their philosophy – recognizing the humor and insignificance in the grand scheme of things, a subtle nod to the insecurities and uncertainties that come with adulthood.
Genre:
Insignificant Parent primarily plays alternative rock, with elements of grunge and indie pop.
Title:
“Apathetic Afternoons”
Full Song Lyrics with Chord Progressions:
(Verse 1: E – B – C#m – A)
E
Here I am again, on this apathetic afternoon,
B
Watching the clouds go by, wondering if I’ll see you soon.
C#m
The grass stains on my jeans are a reminder,
A
Of the time we spent together, becoming blinder.
(Chorus: E – B – A)
E
To the world outside, we were insignificant,
B
But in our little universe, we were effulgent.
A
Now I’m just another insignificant parent,
E
Living in apathetic afternoons, longing for a hint of sentiment.
(Verse 2)
E
Remember when we thought we could conquer the world,
B
With our second-hand guitars and dreams unfurled.
C#m
Now all we have are bills and aching backs,
A
And the echoes of our laughter, fading into tracks.
(Chorus)
(Bridge: C#m – B – A)
C#m
Time has a way of stealing our vigor,
B
Replacing our dreams with a grim rigor.
A
Yet, in my heart, I’m still that dreamer,
E
Hoping for another chance to be a redeemer.
(Chorus x2)
Fan Testimonial:
“My name is Matt, but my friends call me ‘Insignificant Matt’ because of my love for this band. Insignificant Parent is my favorite because their music speaks directly to my soul. It’s like they’ve seen the inside of my mind and turned my thoughts and feelings into songs. Their raw energy, honest lyrics, and relatable themes of struggle and hope in everyday life are the things I live for. Their music has been my companion through the toughest times. It’s as if they’re reminding us all that even though life sometimes feels insignificant, what we feel and experience is uniquely ours, and that’s something to embrace.”
