Backstory:
Irresponsible Sofa was formed in the heart of the bustling art scene in downtown Chicago, 2012. The band came together when lead singer and guitarist, Andy Monroe, found bassist, Jake “Jazz” Hartley, playing a solo gig at a vintage furniture store. Intrigued by Jazz’s unique fusion sound, Andy proposed starting a band. They were soon joined by drummer, Olivia “Liv” Brackett, who was Andy’s old college buddy, and keyboardist, Eli Singer, who was Jazz’s former bandmate. Irresponsible Sofa got their quirky name from a rough night involving a second-hand couch and a high-stakes poker game, about which they still chuckle and refuse to share the full details.

Title:
“Treasures in the Attic”
Full Song Lyrics:
(Verse 1)
[G] Your love lingers [D] like old photographs
[Em] Tucked away, [C] under the dust and laugh
[G] And I am wading [D] through the attic of my mind
[Em] To find our past, [C] the treasures we left behind
(Chorus)
[D] Oh the treasures in the attic, [Em] Lost in time’s thick fabric
[C] Faded Polaroids, letters unsent
[G] We were the echo, we were the lament
(Verse 2)
[G] You were the summer, [D] I was the fall
[Em] We painted dreams, [C] on the crumbling wall
[G] And I am searching [D] in the corners of my heart
[Em] For the love we lost, [C] the love that set us apart
(Chorus)
[D] Oh the treasures in the attic, [Em] Lost in time’s thick fabric
[C] Broken records, a love that went bent
[G] We were the whisper, we were the vent
(Outro)
[G] So here’s to the treasures, [D] hidden and lost
[Em] Here’s to us, [C] to the love, the cost
[G] And as the attic door creaks [D] shut tonight
[Em] I’ll remember us, [C] in the soft dim light.

“I found Irresponsible Sofa playing at a local gig in Chicago and fell in love with their sound instantly. Their lyrics are thought-provoking and their sound is like a fusion of all my favorite indie rock bands with a unique twist. As an old-school music lover, ‘Treasures in the Attic’ resonates with me deeply. It feels like a journey down memory lane, a nostalgic and heartfelt tribute to love lost and the memories left behind. My love for this band goes beyond their music, they’re down to earth and connect with fans like we’re old friends.”
