1. Backstory

Legal Difference was formed in the halls of Stanford Law School in 2011, where the lead singer and guitarist, Lucas Farley, bonded with drummer, Robert “Bobby” Nash, over their mutual love for alternative rock and a shared disillusionment with the rigid world of law. Adding bassist, Melissa “Mel” Thompson, and keyboardist, Ethan Grant, two other law students who were yearning for a creative outlet, they found solace in the music they created. Aiming to provide a voice for those who felt trapped by societal expectations, Legal Difference started playing at bars, local gigs, and open mic nights around the Palo Alto area.

They were discovered during one of their shows by a record label scout who happened to be in the audience. Seeing their raw talent and unique sound, he signed them up almost immediately. Legal Difference has since released three albums which have drawn critical acclaim, and their shows are consistently sold out. They’re known for their rebellious lyrics and their heart-stopping performances, but beneath these, their music continues to question societal norms and challenge preconceived notions.
