Backstory:
Formed in the sleepy town of Wellow, England in 2012, ‘Novel Meal’ was a result of an unexpected friendship between barista-turned-bass-player, Oliver Hughes, and silent bookstore owner/lead singer, Emily Clarke. This unlikely duo soon found themselves regularly jamming after hours in the back of Emily’s bookshop, mixing their unique musical styles and influences together. Their compositions were often inspired by the books that surrounded them, resulting in a strange, yet enchanting blend of storytelling and music.
A chance encounter with multi-instrument virtuoso, Will Carter, brought a new dimension to the band. Besides bringing in his skills on guitar, keyboard, and drums, Will also introduced the band to the vibrant indie music scene in London. Their eccentric style quickly caught attention, and the trio relocated to the capital, adding two more members – Nina Gomez on percussion and Charlie Abbott on guitar – to form the full ensemble that makes up ‘Novel Meal’ today.
