Backstory:

Obvious Need was formed as a band in the small coastal town of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where the four musically inclined friends attended high school together. The members include frontman Jack Turner (lead vocals, guitar), Sam “Smokey” Davis (bass guitar, backing vocals), Brian “Buzz” Phillips (lead guitar), and Pete “Skip” Johnson on drums. They began their journey in Jack’s suburban garage, fueled by a mutual passion for music and a shared sense of ambition. Their musical journey was not just a hobby, but it was an ‘obvious need’, a deeply ingrained desire to express themselves through the power of music.

The band initially struggled to find their sound. They experimented with various genres before settling into something that felt like home. In the summer of 2009, they decided to take their passion to the next level. They dropped everything, piled into an old van, and set out on a cross-country tour, performing in countless bars and small venues. Their dedication and raw talent eventually caught the attention of a record executive, and the rest, as they say, is history.
