Backstory:

Partial Competition was born in the crowded dorms of the University of California, Berkeley, in 2011. A group of four friends – Justin Andrews, Kyle McCormick, Sara Thompson, and Alex Miller, frustrated by their demanding engineering courses, decided to form a band as a creative outlet. The name Partial Competition was a playful nod to their chosen field of study – computer science. The band started performing at small college events, but their unique sound quickly gained a following and they started getting invited to play at local music festivals and bars in the Bay Area.

Their breakthrough moment came in 2014 when they were unexpectedly called in as a last-minute replacement at the Outside Lands Music Festival. Their performance was a hit, and they were immediately signed by a local record label. Since then, Partial Competition has released three successful albums and toured nationwide, but they’ve always stayed true to their roots, often playing surprise gigs at UC Berkeley.
