1. Backstory:
Responsible Weight, a trio based in Seattle, Washington, was formed in 2016 out of the ashes of several local punk and indie bands. The band consists of guitarist and vocalist Sam “Heavy” Jensen, bassist and vocalist Claire “Light” Barker, and drummer Brian “Balance” O’Connell. The band came into being during a house party when they found themselves jamming together for the first time and discovering an unexpected musical chemistry. It was then the foundation for Responsible Weight was set – the rationale being they’d share the weight of the band’s responsibilities equally, hence the name.
Their journey hasn’t been easy, though. Success was slow to come by, but the band’s relentless passion for music and staunch refusal to give up saw them through. By 2018, Responsible Weight began gaining recognition in the Pacific Northwest for their lively and electrifying performances, with a reputation for blending elements of punk, indie, and rock into a distinctive and compelling sound.
