Rotten Poetry

Backstory:
Rotten Poetry, a band born in the heart of Seattle during the dark, overcast days of the late 90’s, is known for its gritty lyrics and haunting melodies. The band members, who met at a poetry reading in a shady coffeehouse, found a shared passion in music and poetry’s power to express raw emotion and reality. Lead singer, Jeff O’Brien, a former mechanic, along with the drummer, Lisa ‘Percussion Princess’ Lee, a sous-chef in a Michelin star restaurant, and on the bass, Ian ‘Strings’ Strickland, an accountant by day, formed the band that would soon become a symbol of their city’s vibrant, underground music scene.

Full Song Lyrics:

(Verse 1)
[Dm] Drenched in the [G] sorrow of a [C] thousand sleepless [Am] nights,
[Dm] I find solace [G] in the city’s [C] glistening neon [Am] lights.
[Dm] I look up at [G] the sky as it [C] cries with me [Am] tonight,
[Dm] With a cup of [G] joe in my hand, [C] tasting the rain’s [Am] spite.

(Chorus)
[Dm] Rain in my [G] coffee, [C] sorrow in my [Am] soul,
[Dm] This city’s [G] heartbeat is my [C] lonely rock and [Am] roll.
[Dm] The neon signs [G] flicker, reflecting in [C] puddles below,
[Dm] Rain in my [G] coffee, [C] the poet’s [Am] sorrowful echo.

(Verse 2)
[Dm] The streets hum [G] the blues of those [C] lost and those [Am] found,
[Dm] Seeking comfort [G] in the rhythm, in the [C] melancholic [Am] sound.
[Dm] Night’s canvas [G] painted with stories [C] unknown and [Am] untold,
[Dm] Rain in my [G] coffee, [C] the city’s [Am] secrets unfold.

(Chorus x2)
[Dm] Rain in my [G] coffee, [C] sorrow in my [Am] soul,
[Dm] This city’s [G] heartbeat is my [C] lonely rock and [Am] roll.
[Dm] The neon signs [G] flicker, reflecting in [C] puddles below,
[Dm] Rain in my [G] coffee, [C] the poet’s [Am] sorrowful echo.
