Sarcastic Childhood

Backstory:

Born out of the vibrant music scene of Seattle in 2010, ‘Sarcastic Childhood’ was formed by a trio of childhood friends, guitarist/vocalist Mike ‘Micky’ Thornton, bassist Andy ‘Ando’ James, and drummer Daniel ‘Dandy’ Richardson. Equipped with their instruments, a shared sense of sarcasm, and a nostalgia for their carefree younger days, they began to create music that spoke to their collective experiences. Life wasn’t always easy, but their songs turned the struggles into sarcastic and poignant anthems, helping them and their fans laugh at the absurdity of it all.

The band achieved moderate success in the local scene before their breakout hit in 2015, which led to national tours and a dedicated following of fans who resonated with the rawness of their music and the authenticity of their lyrics. Despite their rising popularity, the band has managed to stay true to their roots, maintaining a close relationship with their fans and often incorporating fan experiences into their songs.

Title:
“Riding the Rubber Ducky”

Full song lyrics:

(Verse 1)
[E] Riding my rubber ducky in a [A] bathtub of despair,
[D] Laughter echoing off tiles, [G] pretending not to care.
[E] Mom yells about homework, [A] but I’m sailing far away,
[D] Amidst the sea of soap suds, [G] where I’d rather stay.

(Chorus)
[C] Oh, Sarcastic Childhood, [G] you’re a cruel beast,
[D] Masking pain with a jester’s grin, [E] at the very least.
[C] But in this tub, I’m a pirate, [G] I’m a king, I’m free,
[D] In this world of make-believe, [E] that’s where I want to be.

(Verse 2)
[E] My fortress made of Lego, [A] in a battlefield of toys,
[D] Echoing laughter, drowned [G] by the TV’s noise.
[E] Dad speaks of responsibility, [A] but I’m a knight today,
[D] Fighting dragons in my room, [G] in my own spectacular play.

(Chorus)
[C] Oh, Sarcastic Childhood, [G] you’re a bittersweet song,
[D] Making jest of growing pains, [E] where we all belong.
[C] But in my fortress, I’m a hero, [G] I’m a god, I’m me,
[D] In this realm of imagination, [E] forever I shall be.

The band’s favorite fan:

Our favorite fan is undoubtedly Rachel Simmons. She’s been with us since our earliest gigs in Seattle, always standing in the front row, singing along to every lyric. Her passion for our music is palpable and her dedication is heartwarming. She once told us, “Sarcastic Childhood is like a breath of fresh air in the often too serious world of music. Their lyrics resonate with me on a personal level and their performances always leave me feeling lighter. They remind me to laugh at life’s absurdities and to keep the child within me alive.” Her words perfectly encapsulate why we make music and why we love our fans.
