Backstory:
Secondary Stem was born in the basements and garages of small-town Iowa in the early 2000s. The band members, Hank (lead vocalist and guitarist), Jesse (drummer), and Beth (bass guitarist), were the childhood friends who all shared a love for music and an unconventional perspective towards life. They decided to form a band in their junior year of school after winning their local Battle of the Bands competition. Their unique sound, a fusion of alternative rock and punk, quickly gained attention in the local music scene, and within a few years, they were playing bigger venues and building a loyal following.

“Roots in Concrete”
Full Song Lyrics:
[Verse]
(G) I was born in a small town, (C) dreams covered in dust,
(Em) Eyes full of wanderlust, (D) I knew I must,
(G) Break out of the chains, (C) find my own beat,
(Em) With my guitar, (D) we hit the street.
[Chorus]
(G) We are the roots in concrete, (C) we are the secondary stem,
(Em) The rebel sound, (D) that won’t let the system hem,
(G) Our music echoes, (C) in the silent night,
(Em) We are the sparks, (D) setting the world alight.
[Verse]
(G) We found our voice, (C) in the noise and the crowd,
(Em) Singing our truth, (D) loud and proud,
(G) The rhythm of the heart, (C) the melody of the soul,
(Em) This is our story, (D) this is rock and roll.
[Chorus]
(G) We are the roots in concrete, (C) we are the secondary stem,
(Em) The rebel sound, (D) breaking free from the system’s gem,
(G) Our music echoes, (C) in the silent night,
(Em) We are the fire, (D) setting the world alight.
