Sorrowful Leg

Backstory:

Hailing from rural Vermont, the Sorrowful Leg was born from the college dorms of Middlebury where four friends began experimenting with a unique blend of folk and alternative rock. The band’s unusual name came from an inside joke that stuck, revolving around their drummer’s limping walk after a particularly intense jamming session. The band members consist of lead vocalist and guitarist Henry “Hank” Smith, drummer Ethan “E-man” Davis, bass guitarist Connor “Con” Murphy, and keyboardist and back vocalist Sarah “Sare” Thompson. After graduation, they decided to take their music on the road, busking through small towns and cities, and ultimately attracting a local fan base that loved their raw, earnest sound and original lyrics that were often a heartfelt exploration of life’s ups and downs.

Title:

“Broken Road Waltz”

Lyrics:

(Verse 1)
[G] Down the broken road, [Em] we began to tread,
[C] Our hearts filled with dreams, [D] and a sense of dread.
[G] We knew not of the journey, [Em] or where it would lead,
[C] But we walked on, [D] fueled by wanderlust and need.

(Chorus)
[G] So we danced, the Broken Road Waltz, [Em] under fading skies,
[C] Chasing the horizon, [D] where the sun always lies.
[G] With hearts ablaze and hopes high, [Em] we continued to roam,
[C] Every step further, [D] was a step farther from home.

(Verse 2)
[G] We found joy in the struggle, [Em] and laughter in tears,
[C] We found strength in each other, [D] to overcome our fears.
[G] We tasted the bitterness of loss, [Em] and the sweetness of gain,
[C] Through sunshine and storm, [D] through pleasure and pain.

(Chorus)
[G] We danced, the Broken Road Waltz, [Em] under starlit night,
[C] Moving to the rhythm, [D] of love’s gentle fight.
[G] With our shadows stretching behind us, [Em] like a lingering song,
[C] We knew in our hearts, [D] this is where we belong.

Endorsement:

The band’s favorite fan is Marianne “Mary” Baxter, a school teacher from their hometown. Marianne has been following the band since their busking days, often driving hours to catch their performances. She says, “Sorrowful Leg’s music has a raw, heartfelt quality that you don’t find in today’s overproduced music scene. Their lyrics touch your soul, make you think, and feel alive. Their ‘Broken Road Waltz’ song, in particular, feels like it was written just for me. It speaks to my own journey, my hopes, fears, and dreams. That’s what makes them my favorite band – their music is real, it’s honest, and it’s human.”
