Backstory:
Specific Fishing was born from the unlikely friendship of four college friends – John ‘The Hook’ Hawkins, Tim ‘Bait’ Bailey, Gary ‘Guppy’ Granger, and Bobby ‘Bass’ Bennett. All enrolled in the Marine Biology department at the University of Miami, their shared passion for the sea, marine life, and music brought them together during late-night study sessions. One fateful night, instead of studying, they found themselves jamming on their makeshift instruments in the uni library. The unique, eclectic sound they created that night stirred something deep within them, and Specific Fishing was born.
Their journey began as a humble campus band, performing in the university’s events. The band gradually gathered a cult following, as their distinctive sound resonated with their fellow students. Their fame spread beyond the university, and in less than a year, they were playing in local festivals, making a name for themselves in the indie music scene.

“Being a marine biologist myself, Specific Fishing’s music spoke to me on a whole different level. Their lyrics, combined with their signature indie folk-rock sound, perfectly encapsulated the allure and mystery of the sea. The song “Catch of the Day” quickly became my personal anthem. Its soulful melody and heartfelt lyrics express the emotions I experience during my daily coastal adventures. Their music transports me to the beach, where the waves crash against the shore, and the sun sets the horizon on fire. To me, Specific Fishing is more than just a band, they’re a beacon of my passion and a celebration of marine life.”
