Straight Poetry

1. Backstory

Straight Poetry was born out of the bustling jazz cafes and dimly lit poetry slam nights in San Francisco in 2015. The core members, saxophonist Jonny “Jazz” Mitchell and spoken-word artist Lila “Shakespeare” Monroe, were individually known in their respective fields before their paths crossed. Their passion for blending poetry with music led to creating a unique sound that captured the attention of their local community. After adding the talented bassist, “Smooth” Eddie Washington and versatile drummer “Rhythm” Ryan Gomez, Straight Poetry has since traveled far beyond their California roots, captivating audiences with their unique blend of poetic jazz.

4. Full song lyrics

(Verse 1)
In the midst of the night, under the moon’s soft glow,
Marooned by thoughts, where the heart’s echoes go.

Through the twilight haze, where love and longing meet,
Walking barefoot on memories, down the lonely street.

(Chorus)
Echoes of the heart, whispers in the wind,
Lost tales of love, where do I begin?
In your gentle gaze, in the soft moon’s light,
In the echoes of the heart, I find my quiet night.

(Verse 2)
Your name etched on the walls of my soul’s corridor,
Chasing shadows, where love used to live evermore.

Strewn stardust dreams, in the canvas of the night,
In this silent symphony, your absence takes flight.

(Chorus)
Echoes of the heart, whispers in the wind,
Lost tales of love, where do I begin?
In your distant touch, in the silent night,
In the echoes of the heart, I find my quiet might.

(Bridge)
In the echoes, in the quiet, in the rhythm of the rain,
I find you, I lose you, in joy and in pain.
In the symphony of silence, in the dusk’s gentle art,
I find you, I lose you, in the echoes of the heart.

(Chorus)
Echoes of the heart, whispers in the wind,
Lost tales of love, where do I begin?
In your ghostly trace, in the breaking light,
In the echoes of the heart, I find my quiet fight.

(Outro)
Through the echoes of the heart, in the star’s fading glow,
Walking barefoot on memories, where only the heart can go.
