Strict Self was conceived in the heart of New York City amidst the eclectic backdrop of the thriving underground music scene. The band, composed of four friends – Kate Rodricks on vocals and guitar, Tony Williams on bass, Derrick Harvey on drums, and Charlie Palmer on keyboard, met while attending the prestigious Juilliard School. They discovered a shared love for music that wasn’t bound by the rules of traditional genres, a love that embodied the spirit of rebellion and individuality. Inspired by their surroundings and the complexities of the human condition, they decided to form Strict Self, a name symbolizing their quest for self-expression and authenticity.
