Backstory:
Formed in 2012 at the heart of Austin, Stupid Devil started off as a group of disenfranchised suburbanites who turned their teenage angst into power chords and rebellious anthems. The band members, all college dropouts, bonded over shared heartbreak, the monotony of 9-5 life, and a mutual love for old school punk rock. The band’s lead singer and guitarist, Danny “Dismal” Douglas, joined forces with bassist Jimmy “Jinx” Johnson, drummer Mikey “Mayhem” Michaels, and rhythm guitarist Tara “Trouble” Tyler. From countless basement gigs and late-night rehearsals, their angry, decibel-defying sound evolved into a distinctively unique brand of punk rock.

“Chasing Shadows”
Full Song Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
C (Am) G (Em)
We’re lost in the city, with hearts feeling gritty,
F (Dm) C (Am)
Chasing shadows, in the alley’s narrow.
[Chorus]
G (Em) C (Am)
Ooh, stupid devil, ain’t a rebel with a cause,
F (Dm) G (Em)
Just a dreamer in the city of lost.
[Verse 2]
C (Am) G (Em)
We’ve got no time for love, just the stars above,
F (Dm) C (Am)
Running wild, like a lost child.
[Chorus]
G (Em) C (Am)
Ooh, stupid devil, ain’t a rebel with a cause,
F (Dm) G (Em)
Just a dreamer, in the city of lost.
[outro]
C (Am) G (Em)
So we keep on dreaming, underneath the city gleaming,
F (Dm) C (Am)
Chasing shadows, with our hearts in tow.
Favorite Fan:
Jessie Sutherland, a 27-year old freelance writer from Dallas, swears by Stupid Devil as her favorite band. “There’s something raw about their sound, a palpable honesty that punches through the noise,” she says. “Their music resonates with me, echoing the struggles and hopes of my generation. ‘Chasing Shadows’ is my go-to track for when I need a dose of reality served with a side of punk rock energy. It’s the blend of rebellious lyrics, grungy guitar riffs, and unfiltered emotion that makes Stupid Devil more than just a band to me. They’re the soundtrack to my life.”
