1. Short Backstory
Thrifty Constituent was formed in 2002 in the college dorms of Northeastern University, Boston. The founding members, Mark “Thrifty” Thorne, James “Constituent” Cook, and Casey “The Judge” Judson, were each studying different fields (Economics, Political Science, and Music respectively), but found a common ground in their love for music. The band’s unique name, Thrifty Constituent, was a playful nod to their fields of study, embodying the essence of budgeting and democracy.
Starting as a casual jam band, they quickly realized their music resonated with their peers. Their thought-provoking lyrics, often commenting on the socio-economic and political climate, coupled with a refreshing sound, made them stand out. After finishing their studies, they decided to pursue their music career full-time and have been making waves in the indie rock scene ever since.
2. Music Genre
Thrifty Constituent falls into the category of Indie Rock with a blend of Folk and Punk Rock elements.
3. Song Title
“Cash and Ballots”
4. Full Song Lyrics
(Verse 1)
In the heart of the city, under the neon lights,
Struggle for the plenty, dressed up in the night,
Frozen in the alleys, warmed by the fight,
For a better day, in the cold daylight.
(Chorus)
Cash and Ballots, Cash and Ballots,
The game we play, the price we pay,
In the world of Cash and Ballots.
(Verse 2)
In the corridors of power, the suits and the ties,
Deals made in shadows, under the public eye,
Promises whispered, in the hush of lies,
In the game of thrones, where democracy dies.
(Chorus)
Cash and Ballots, Cash and Ballots,
The game we play, we’re led astray,
In the world of Cash and Ballots.
(Bridge)
Can you hear the voices, rising from the street?
Can you feel the choices, in every heartbeat?
In the world we’re building, where love and justice meet,
There’s more than Cash and Ballots, in every soul you greet.
(Chorus)
Cash and Ballots, Cash and Ballots,
The game we play, there’s another way,
Beyond the world of Cash and Ballots.
(Outro)
In the heart of the city, under the neon lights,
There’s more than the gritty, in our human rights,
Beyond Cash and Ballots, beyond the endless nights,
There’s a world waiting, in the morning light.
