1. Backstory

Unsightly Coach was formed in the heartland of Kansas in 2017, the brainchild of four high school friends: lead vocalist Randy Martin, guitarist Scott Rice, bassist Billy Thompson, and drummer Kevin Johnson. Their shared love for music and frustration at their small town limitations pushed them to explore their creative side, resulting in the formation of Unsightly Coach. Drawing from their life experiences, their music paints a vivid picture of their journey, which resonates with their listeners.

The name ‘Unsightly Coach’ was inspired by their high school basketball coach who they saw as someone with a challenging personality but who unknowingly pushed them to their creative extremes. Despite his gruff demeanor and less-than-pleasing appearance, they realized he was instrumental in their growth, just as they hope their music can motivate others to embrace their uniqueness and strive for their dreams.
