1. Backstory

Untidy Note was formed in the summer of 2014 by a group of four college friends at University of California, Berkeley. Aaron McAllister, a music major with a passion for creative writing, teamed up with fellow students and musicians Kate Robinson, Damian Sanchez, and Zack Martin. They shared a love for music and a mutual dissatisfaction for the sterile and predictable landscape of mainstream music. The name “Untidy Note” was inspired by their shared dorm room, which was always cluttered with music sheets, instruments, and other creative projects. Their shared commitment was to create music that defied categorization and pushed creative boundaries, just like their untidy but inspiring living space.

They started by performing in local college bars and festivals, often experimenting with their sound on stage. Their unique approach to music and charismatic performances quickly gained a loyal following. Performing in different venues and cities, they caught the attention of independent music producer, Jason Oliver, who helped them release their first album in 2016.
