Untrue Girl

Backstory:
Untrue Girl is a powerhouse of feminist angst and rebellion, originating from the laid back, but culturally diverse, city of Asheville, North Carolina. The band was formed in 2015 by lead vocalist Haley Jones, a coffee shop barista with a burning desire to make her voice heard, and her high school best friend, Miranda “Mandy” Parker, a self-taught bassist with a love for all things punk. The duo was joined by two more talented women – Sarah Mitchell on drums, and Emily Lawson on lead guitar – to create a unique sound that is a blend of their eclectic influences.

Their band name, Untrue Girl, was suggested by Haley during a late-night brainstorming session. It’s a deliberate play on words, challenging the societal stereotypes of what it means to be a female. The band stands as a symbol of all girls who feel misrepresented, misunderstood, and misjudged by society’s narrow definition of femininity.

Genre:
Untrue Girl is best described as a punk rock band with a feminist edge. They blend aggressive guitar riffs with biting lyrics, crafting anthems that resonate with the modern, empowered woman.

[Am] Wearing my rebellion like a [G] vintage dress,
[Em] Unapologetic, I am a [Dm] beautiful mess.

[Em] I’m not your untrue girl, I [Dm] choose to transgress.

[C] Broken glass and glitter, [G] that’s who we are,

[C] We won’t be boxed in, we [G] won’t be marred,
[Am] We are the Untrue Girls, we’ll [Em] leave you scarred.

(Verse 2)
[Am] Red lipstick war paint, [G] laced up boots,
[Em] Marching to the beat of our [Dm] own roots.

[Em] We are the Untrue Girls, hear our [Dm] resolute.

(Chorus)
[C] Broken glass and glitter, [G] that’s who we are,
