Backstory:
Violent Rat was conceived in the dimly lit, grimy basements of East London. Its members – fiery lead vocalist and bassist Jay ‘Rat’ Riley, eccentric drummer Dexter ‘Vex’ Evans, and enigmatic guitarist Shelley ‘Shred’ McGuire – all grew up in the same neighborhood, sharing a mutual love for chaotic, cathartic music and gritty urban life. In 2014, they began crafting opulent, borderline brash music in their shared flat, with lyrics that took an unapologetic dive into societal issues. As they honed their craft, their basement sessions began to draw crowds, and the explosive energy of their live shows led to a record deal with underground label, ‘Anarchy Records’.
Violent Rat has since been causing seismic waves in the punk rock scene. Known for their raw performances, there’s a certain magnetism to their concerts that keeps fans coming back.
