Worse Demonstration

Backstory:
“Worse Demonstration” sprouted from the vibrant but hushed Indie scene of Portland, Oregon in 2015. The core trio of the band – frontman/songwriter Jake Armstrong, bassist Tim Riley, and drummer Sarah Davis – initially met in a local coffee shop, bonding over their shared love for eclectic music and the desire to express their views on social issues through their art. They started experimenting with their unique sound in a dusty basement, and it wasn’t long before their distinctive blend of indie rock and spoken poetry got them local recognition, and eventually, a broader audience.

The name “Worse Demonstration” came out of a humorous realization that their first public gig was, as they termed it, ‘the worst demonstration of a live performance they’d ever seen.’ Rather than dishearten them, it fueled their drive to improve and push boundaries. Today, Worse Demonstration is known for its thought-provoking lyrics, complex melodies, and the unique blend of indie, rock, and spoken word poetry.

Title:
“Echoes in Silence”

Full Song Lyrics:

(Verse 1)
[C] I tried to talk, but my [G] words fell flat,
[Am] Echoes bouncing off the [Em] walls back,
[Dm] This silence isn’t [G] golden, it’s [C] black.

(Chorus)
[C] Echoes in Silence, [G] our love’s defiance,
[Am] We fight in quiet, [Em] nurturing the riot,
[Dm] This noiseless battlefield [G] is so violent, so [C] violent.

(Verse 2)
[C] Our hearts were once [G] loud and clear,
[Am] Now only whispers that [Em] we fear,
[Dm] When did love [G] disappear? [C] Disappear?

(Chorus)
[C] Echoes in Silence, [G] our love’s defiance,
[Am] We speak in hush tones, [Em] ignoring the moans,
[Dm] This mute combat [G] is a giant, a [C] giant.

(Outro)
[C] Let’s break the silence, [G] end this compliance,
[Am] Let our words flow, [Em] let our love grow,
[Dm] No more echoes in [G] silence, no more [C] silence.

Band’s Favorite Fan:
Lisa Simmons. Lisa is a diehard fan of Worse Demonstration. She says, “Their music is like a narration of my life’s story. It’s raw, real, and resonates with every bit of my emotions. ‘Echoes in Silence’ particularly touches me; it speaks the unspoken words of a relationship that’s falling apart, and yet there’s a glimmer of hope. Worse Demonstration is my go-to band because their music doesn’t just entertain, it heals and motivates. It’s my daily dose of inspiration and the perfect embodiment of indie rock/poetry.”
