Writhing Housing

Backstory:
Formed in the heart of Detroit in 2010, Writhing Housing is a band that has evolved out of the ashes of a turbulent era of the city’s music scene. The band’s founding members, Jack Monroe and Samantha Kincaid, met at a local dive bar during a raucous open mic night and immediately discovered a shared passion for music and a mutual dissatisfaction with their respective day jobs. Both had grown up in families affected by the city’s housing crisis and had a deep connection to the city’s grit and resilience. They quickly recruited Riley Cohen on drums and Jenna Price on bass, and Writhing Housing was born. The band’s raw energy, punk influences, and gritty lyrics soon gained them a loyal following within Detroit’s underground music scene.

Fan’s Testimonial:
The band’s favorite fan is a guy named Eddie. Eddie has been a die-hard Writhing Housing fan since their first show at a gritty basement venue in 2011. He has never missed a show since then and has all of their albums, EPs, and even a few bootleg recordings. He says, “Writhing Housing’s music isn’t just a sound; it’s a voice for all of us who’ve felt the sting of the city’s harsh realities. Their lyrics are like my life’s soundtrack. You feel the pain, the struggle, but also the hope. They remind us that amidst the rubble of concrete and dreams, there’s a song waiting to be sung, and that’s why they are my favorite band.”
