Backstory:
Yawning Underwear was born in the dizzying and energetic realm of a Los Angeles basement. The band consists of four members: lead vocalist and guitarist Charlie “Cotton” Dash, bassist Lyndsay “Lace” Saunders, drummer Mike “Micromodal” Bennett, and keyboardist Rusty “Rayon” Jones. During a late-night brainstorming session, after several rejected band names and a few too many energy drinks, Yawning Underwear was conceived, much to the amusement of the sleepy quartet. The moniker, strange as it seemed, was oddly fitting; the band represented an awakening amidst the dull, everyday monotony, like a fresh pair of underwear. They jived on a unique frequency and were ready to share their music with the world.
Yawning gained a cult-like following in the underbelly of the hipster scene, delivering off-the-wall performances that combined the raucous energy of punk with the sublime storytelling of folk. Their music was a reflection of their collective spirit — playful, quirky, and unapologetically original. As they took their self-described “Punk Folk” blend on a national tour, their oddball approach stirred a wave of interest among those who sought something different in their music, creating a community of fans who reveled in the band’s distinct sound.
