Equal Swimming

Backstory:
Equal Swimming originated from the heart of San Francisco’s thriving underground music scene in the late 2010s. The band was formed by four old college friends – Arthur ‘art’ Collins on vocals and rhythm guitar, Emily ’emi’ Stone on lead guitar, Ben ‘benjy’ Jacobson on bass, and Theo ‘the honest’ Walker on drums. The friends, who pursued different career paths after graduation, decided to come together to express their shared passion for music, social equality, and harmony.

Their first album was met with critical acclaim, but it was their second album that catapulted them to mainstream success. Although their success story seems sudden, it was the result of years of dedicated practice, endless jamming, and relentless gigging in small venues around San Francisco. They have always believed in having an equal footing in their band, hence the name – Equal Swimming.

Title:
“Ripples and Waves”

Full Song Lyrics:
(Verse 1)
[G] Rippling through the water, we’re [D] all swimming in the same sea,
[Em] Hoping for a tomorrow, where [C] we all can be free.
[G] We’ve got different stories, but [D] our hearts beat the same,
[Em] Striving for a melody, in this [C] life’s beautiful game.

(Chorus)
[Am] We’re all equal swimmers, in this [D] ocean wide and deep,
[G] We’re creating ripples and waves, as [C] secrets we keep.
[Am] So let’s swim together, let’s [D] make this world a better place,
[G] With every stroke we take, let’s [C] leave a gentle trace.

(Verse 2)
[G] The tide may be against us, we [D] may struggle to keep afloat,
[Em] But with love and unity, we’ll [C] sail in the same boat.
[G] Life’s too short for hatred, too [D] precious for a fight,
[Em] Let’s create a symphony, under the [C] moon’s soft light.

They’ve got the raw, real, and rebellious spirit that’s so characteristic of indie rock. I’m amazed at how they’ve maintained their unique sound despite mainstream success.
