Backstory:
In the heart of the bustling city of Chicago, four childhood friends, Alex, Ben, Charlie, and Dale discovered their shared passion for music during their college years, which resulted in the formation of ‘Afraid Coal’. They started off as a garage band, playing at local events and small gatherings. Their chemistry and raw energy soon caught the attention of a local radio station, which gave them their first big break. The band got its unique name from a childhood memory where they were afraid of the dark, coal-filled basement in Alex’s house, where they used to hide and play.
Genre:
Afraid Coal’s style can be best described as Indie rock fused with elements of grunge and electric blues.

“Shadow of the Past”
Full Song Lyrics:
(Verse 1)
[Am] Down the stairs I walk, [Em] into the dark
[G] Fear wrapped in every corner, [D] I feel the spark
[Am] Old coal beneath my feet, [Em] secrets it keeps
[G] In the silence of the basement, [D] where the darkness seeps
(Chorus)
[C] In the shadow of the past
[G] We found our courage at last
[D] In the fear of the unknown
[Em] We found a voice of our own
(Verse 2)
[Am] Afraid but not alone, [Em] in the coal-filled room
[G] Under a dim lantern’s glow, [D] we found our tune
[Am] Striking chords into the night, [Em] we claimed our right
[G] Singing songs of courage, [D] in the pale moonlight
(Chorus)
[C] In the shadow of the past
[G] We found our courage at last
[D] In the fear of the unknown
[Em] We found a voice of our own
(Ending)
[Am] In the basement dark and cold, [Em] Afraid Coal was born
[G] From the fear and the unknown, [D] a new hope was sworn
